Material Matters

What happens when the materials are the main act? This residential redesign in a relatively new part of the Netherlands is approached as a blank canvas to play with repetitive design gestures and natural materials. Leather adds comfort and tactility, whereas natural stone lends the home a confident and, at times, dramatic appeal. Clever choices, such as a rhythmic room divider between the lounge area and the workstation, the consequent use of a selected toned-down colour palette, and intentionally opposing different materials to mark the beginning and ending of other spaces, make this functional home a welcoming feast for the senses.

Sculpting with natural stone, wood, and leather leads to a stimulating residential redesign.
